My daughter, the pilot

How could any father not be inspired by a daughter that is so loyal a patriot, that she would voluntarily place herself in harm’s way "to protect the rights endowed to us by our founding fathers"? These are her words, not mine, although I agree with them completely. Cari is 25 years old and has the strength, courage and intelligence to know that freedom is not free at all. A First Lieutenant and Pilot of a C-17 military jet, Cari is stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California. Cari joined the AFROTC while in college at Southern Illinois University where she grew to love and admire what our military volunteers do to protect this country and what it stands for. She knew very quickly that she wanted to make a contribution as well and went through the rigors of pilot training and is now an officer in the United States Air Force. In her short tenure as a pilot, Cari has flown missions to Kuwait, Afghanistan, Turkey and many other faraway places all in the effort to support the troops that give us our freedom. Cari anticipates deployment soon, and while this makes her dad very nervous, it also couldn’t make him more proud. I salute my daughter, Cari Piha, her husband 1st Lt Chris Piha and all the rest of our voluntary military personnel.
